Revelopment of the golf course began on July 28th 2004. The 18 hole golf course will undergo major upgrading with the objective of enhancing the golfing experience for both members and visitors. The designer of the new facility is Tom MacKensie of Donald Steel & Company. Their work can be seen at some of the world’s best-known golf courses including Turnberry, St Andrews, Royal St. Georges, Royal Co. Down, Killarney and Enniscrone. While the new layout will respect much of the current routing, the course will be extended beyond the boundary of the existing course. This will enable greater use of the estates water features and allow space to expand the practice facilities. The greens complexes will be redeveloped and extended and the bunkers will be restyled.
A new practice facility will be developed on the site of the current 4th and 5th holes. This facility will include covered bays and indoor coaching facilities. The current practice ground will be retained as a short game area.
The course development will be completed in two phases commencing in July 2004. Nine holes will remain in play throughout the redevelopment and the completed course is expected to be open for play in June 2006.
