the area known as the Liberties lay the famous and historic St James's
Gate Guinness Brewery, in which 2.5 million pints of stout are brewed
each day. Founded by Arthur Guinness in 1759, the factory now covers 26
hectares and forms part of Dublin's identity. At the Guinness

Kilmainham Jail (call 453 5984 for information) is not to be missed
when visiting Dublin as it is strongly linked to every painful step
towards the Irish independence. A number of leaders have been
imprisoned or executed there. Closed in 1924, the building now welcome
visitors for an excellent tour which will leave you thoughtful. Parks
and Gardens Phoenix Park is one of the world's largest city parks. It
is actually bigger than New York's Central Park all the London parks.
Its 700+ hectares host gardens, lakes, sporting facilities, a zoo, a
castle, the police headquarters, government offices and the residences
of the US ambassador as well as the Irish president.
The fine Victorian glasshouses at the National Botanic Gardens (call
837 7596 for information) are the home to pioneering botanical work and
