The Irish architecture is a rich one. Many prehistoric graves, ruins of monasteries, fortresses and castles are to be found, reminding the visitor of the country's long and deep history. Ireland is packed with remainings from the Stone Age (Newgrange, Knowth…), the Bronze Age (ring forts), the early Christian Times (monasteries, stone churches, Glendalough…), Norman times (Gothic style buildings such as Dublin's Christ Church Cathedral, thatched cottages).

architecture are its elegant Georgian-style houses, the finest examples of which you can admire around Merrion Square in Dublin. The Palladian style is illustrated by magnificent country houses such as Russborough House or Castletown House.

Ireland is not a country famous for modern architecture, but over the past years a number of building work of mixed quality has been taking place especially in the Dublin area. Amongst the good examples of modern buildings are the Docklands area which still undergoes development, the Millenium Wing of the National Gallery or Dublin's O'Connell St's Monument of Light or Spire which is 120m in total.
