Although
not easily accessible if you do not have your own means of
transportation as only the larger villages are served by bus, the South
of the city is worth visiting as a number of historic sites are of
great interest. There are many outstanding archaeological sites in the
area around LOUGH GUR. The Lios, otherwise known as the Grange Stone
Circle, is about 4,000 years old and made up 113 embanked uprights. The
Lough Gur Interpretive Centre (call 360 788 |
for information), located
in the thatched replica of a Neolithic hut, will provide you with a
good background with its audiovisual presentations and small museum. A
number of short walks will take you to different ancient monuments:
burial mounds, standing stones…
