Waterford Treasures, A guide to the historical and archaeological treasures of Waterford City
The Waterford Museum of Treasures exhibition, the finest of its type outside Dublin, shows the most splendid of Waterford city’s treasures along with the finest of the objects found in the city-centre excavations. In 2004 for the first time the Museum published a lavishly illustrated guide to the collection, featuring some one hundred and thirty objects and preceded by a historical essay on each period placing the objects in context, from Waterford’s Viking beginnings to the 20th century. The
book, written and edited by two members of the museum staff, also has contributions by seven specialist historians and archaelogists and a preface by the Director of the National Museum of Ireland who described the book at its launch as ‘world-class’.

The book Waterford Treasures, A guide to the historical and archaeological treasures of Waterford City won the 2004 All-Ireland Museum of the Year Best Publication award. The award judges praised it as ‘a visual feast … an affordable and lively guide to the collection, appealing to both the public and the specialist curator or historian’ and they noted the ‘innovation and excellent design of this sumptuous publication.’
