Waterford
is the oldest city in Ireland. Its Irish name is Port Láirge and it is
more than anything else a commercial city and a port. Some parts of the
city have kept their medieval appearance.
It is in the 8th century that the Viikings settled on the site of
Waterford, soon making it the most powerful settlement of the country.
Along the years Waterford’s supremacy and wealth was reinforced as it
became an important trading centre.
