Accommodation_Galway CLARINBRIDGE and KILCOLGAN are famous for the Galway International Oyster Festival which is held in September every year. At KINVARA, a small stone harbour adds to the charm of the quiet town. Kinvara also has a 16th-century castle, Dunguaire Castle (call 637 108 for information) which underwent complete restoration and is now in excellent condition. From May to September, a medieval banquet is held at the castle, including music, storytelling, a consequent |
dinner and mead. Kinvara also hosts music festival Fleadh na gCuach in late May and the Cruinniú na mBáid, celebrating Galway’s hooker boats in August. GORT itself has not much to please the visitor, but the surroundings have a few sites worth a detour, such as Thoor Ballylee (call 631 436 for information), a Norman tower ; Coole Park (call 631 804 for information) ; and the monastic site of Kilmacduagh which lies beside a lake. |
