 Slane - nature in Meath
Accommodation_Meath Well-known for its castle, Slane is a pleasant little village full of stone houses and cottages. The Hill of Slane overlooks the village and a few ruins remain there, from an ancient monastery and from buildings which once belonged to a Franciscan friary. The tower is still open though and you can see the Hill of Tara and the Boyne Valley from there. Slane Castle (call 041-9884400 for information or visit www.slanecastle.ie) now hosts outdoor rock concerts in |
its natural amphitheatre. This late 18th-century Gothic Revival castle has unfortunately been destroyed by fire in 1991. An interesting route is the one that goes from Slane to Navan as you will find many ruins and fine buildings and sites along the way, following the Boyne Valley. |
