The Northwest Tourist Office (call 912 1160 for information) is unfortunately located outside town. It has the following opening hours: 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and noon to 3pm on Sundays from June to August 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday from September to May St Eunan’s Cathedral (1901) and the Donegal County Museum (call 912 4613 for information) are among the places to see. At the end of August, the Letterkenny Arts Festival celebrates music and dance during four days. AROUND |
LETTERKENNY The Corn & Flax Mills (call 074-913 7071 for information) in NEWMILLS have a large water mill and some buildings are 400 years old. Colmcille Heritage Centre (call 074-913 7306 for information) is a hall of fame to Colmcille, the patriarch of Irish monasticism. The centre lies on the shores of Lough Gartan. On your way to the centre you will be able to visit the ruins of Colmcille’s Abbey. Glebe House (call 074-913 7071 for information) dates back to the 19th century and was originally a rectory. It hosts a gallery which works of art alone make the visit worth. Doon Well is still thought by some people to be curative. Nearby Rock of Doon offers good view of the area. Lifford does not have many attractions for the visitor and is usually passed by, but if you decide to stop you can still visit the heritage centre (call 914 1733 for information) or Cavanacor House (call 914 1143 for information) at Rossinger. |
