There are many festivals and events in Belfast and around along the year: In March, the Belfast Film Festival (call 90325913 for information or visit www.belfastfilmfestival.org) celebrates Irish and international film-making. St Patrick’s Carnival (call 90313440 for information) celebrates the patron saint of Ireland. In May, the Belfast Marathon (call 90270345 for information or visit www.belfastcity.gov.uk/marathon) gather local and international runners and walkers. |
During 12 days, the Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival (call 90232403 for information) celebrates drama, music, poetry and other expressions of art. In August, Féile an Phobail (call 90313440 for information or visit www.feilebelfast.com) is supposedly the largest community festival in Ireland, with many events of all kinds. In October, the Belfast Festival at Queen’s (call 90667687 for information or visit www.belfastfestival.com) is the 2nd-largest arts festival in the UK. The Halloween Carnival (call 90270222 for information) takes place from 27 to 31 October. In December, the Christmas Festivities (call 90270222 for information or visit www.belfastcity.gov.uk/events) include a wide range of events from late November to the end of December. Cultural venues: Major venues for live music in Belfast include the Waterfront Hall, the Odyssey Arena, the Ulster Hall and the Crescent Arts Centre amongst many others. Belfast also has a number of theatres, such as the Grand Opera House, the Lyric Theatre, the Group Theatre and the Old Museum Arts Centre. |
