At CARROWMORE, the Megalithic Cemetery (call 916 1534 for information)
consists of stone circles and passage tombs and is far older than
Newgrange. Unfortunately a number of stones have been removed and some
other are located on private land, |
which does not make it easy to
imagine what the site looked like in the first place.
Queen Maeve, a legendary figure, is supposed to be buried at KNOCKNAREA
CAIRN which lies on the top of a hill. Another cairn worth a visit is
DEER PARK COURT CAIRN, from which the views on Lough Gill are
spectacular. A highly popular surfing spot, STRANDHILL is a long and
sandy beach and a very good place for walks, either on the dunes or, at
low tide, across to Coney Island. |
