Adare’s charm is obvious, however spoilt by the busy N21 which passes right through town. Medieval buildings, lovely ancient churches and thatched cottages make it a real tourist centre. The history of Adare’s building is well explained at the Adare Heritage Centre (call 396 666 for information). A number of religious houses can be admired throughout town, such as the Church of the Most Holy Trinity, an Augustinian Friary (now the Church of Ireland parish church) or the ruins of a |
Franciscan Friary. Desmond Castle is unfortunately not safe enough to visit and restoration work is still going on. It is an early 13th century building which once had a strategic importance. To arrange an historical walking tour of Adare call 396 666. |
